Avengers: Endgame tacking Thor onto the Guardians ensemble without consulting James Gunn first was a strange move by Kevin Feige, who’s expected to plan these things more thoroughly. Gunn initially didn’t know what to do with the God of Thunder in his threequel, and while Taika Waititi conveniently took care of that little problem in Thor: Love and Thunder, this temporary creative dread may have influenced Gunn in his decision to take over the DCU, where his word is now law.

No one knows how the DCU reboot will fare in the current cinematic landscape, but we can’t deny that it was absolutely shrewd of Gunn to jump from the sinking ship that is the MCU these days.
