After waiting for more than 10 years, PC gamers were disappointed to learn that The Last of Us remake port is riddled with bugs, performance issues, and other disruptive problems that make the game essentially unplayable on Windows. As Sony races to release hotfixes and redeem this disastrous launch, people use social media to vent their frustration with this faulty version.

In other news, Mark Hamill has decided to resurrect the character of Luke Skywalker one more time. Only instead of flying that iconic X-Wing or tearing Moff Gideon’s Darktroopers to pieces, the actor is using his voice to bring hope to the Ukrainian resistance fighters in their fight against the Russian invasion.

Speaking of the galaxy far, far away, Star Wars fans are wondering if Gina Carano’s firing from The Mandalorian and her own spinoff show Rangers of the New Republic getting canned has somehow adversely affected the narrative of the ongoing season 3.

As we ponder the ramifications of this sudden shift, the other hemisphere of genre storytelling is still quavering under James Gunn‘s bold DCU initiative, though for a lot of people, this is a welcome change of pace considering the state of superhero cinema at the moment.

Check out all of these beats and more in today’s sci-fi roundup.

These Last of Us memes perfectly encapsulate what it feels like to be a PC gamer at the moment

Imagine hopelessly waiting for the better part of a decade to play one of the greatest games of all time on your platform of choice. Imagine counting the days until that game finally releases. And imagine loading it up only for the screen to crash, and live to learn that that’s just the beginning of your troubles. It seems the Last of Us PC port is suffering from a myriad of bugs and performance issues. Sony is quickly addressing fan discomfort by releasing patches, but as far as the review page on Steam is concerned, the game’s fate is already determined.

PC gamers are used to this dilemma, however, as they’ve been continuously experiencing problems of this sort with a number of games (e.g. Hogwarts Legacy, Forspoken, Elden Ring) over the past few years. It’s said that comedy is the greatest therapeutic tool, so now they’re taking to social media to suffer through this pain with the power of memes. We’ve collected some of the funnier ones in an article, which you can check out here.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy finally gets the go-ahead at Paramount Plus

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has been in the wings for a while now, but the project is finally coming out of development hell and entering production purgatory in 2024. Paramount has just announced that Alex Kurtzman, who oversees the space franchise on TV, is busy bringing together another team to oversee this unique Trekkie vision. Gaia Violo is writing the premiere episode, set in the titular Starfleet Academy, and bringing to mind a very particular image of a “college drama” set in space. Or at least the sci-fi equivalent of it.

Starfleet Academy‘s tagline introduces the series as an adventure featuring “a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves, and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.”

James Gunn’s arch-nemesis tries to out the next Superman, but he is denying any knowledge of the actor’s very existence

You might think the online community is James Gunn’s biggest adversity at the moment after inheriting the mantle of DCU boss, but you’d be wrong. The Guardian of the Galaxy filmmaker’s greatest enemy is a scoop journalist called Grace Randolph, and she’s recently had a lot to say about his plans involving the DCU reboot. One of these involved a rumor that outed Logan Lerman as the next Superman… or at least the biggest contender for the role at the moment.

Except, James Gunn is feigning obliviousness to the actor’s existence. While we find it very difficult to believe Gunn — an acclaimed filmmaker himself and well-established in Hollywood circles — doesn’t know about a burgeoning actor like Lerman, it would be a very funny development indeed if he refused to cast him just to stick it to Randolph, his ancient foe. And thus the seemingly unending and disturbingly relentless Gunn/Safran drama continues to unfurl.

Mark Hamill is reprising Luke Skywalker for an alert app in Ukraine

In just a few years, it will have been five decades since George Lucas debuted his protagonist Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: A New Hope. Since then, Luke has gone on to become a symbol of heroism and hope, bravery and sacrifice, honor and forgiveness, for many generations. Now, even after his canonical death in The Last Jedi, and surprise resurgence in The Mandalorian, the actor isn’t done with Luke or what he stands for in this world.

It has been announced that Mark Hamill is lending his Luke Skywalker voice to an alert app in Ukraine, warning soldiers and civilians about any impending attacks. He even signs off the message with “may the Force be with you,” which is both inspiring and wholesome. Whoever said the Jedi don’t exist in the real world?

Is the third season of The Mandalorian being haunted by Gina Carano’s ghost?

Cara Dune was originally supposed to appear in The Mandalorian season 3, not to mention spearhead the Rangers of the New Republic spinoff. Gina Carano’s firing in 2021 upended those plans completely, and now many fans are wondering if that caused Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni to change their whole narrative for the MandoVerse going forward.

Fortunately, season 3 hasn’t been underwhelming like The Book of Boba Fett, and even if it ends up declining in quality for those remaining three episodes, we can hardly blame Gina Carano’s side character for the overall direction the plot is taking now. Star Wars fans being Star Wars fans, however, they’ll probably end up blaming anyone from Bob Iger to Jon Favreau and Gina Carano if that really happens.
