Star Wars is known for reusing popular old villains when at a loss for fresh content, which is sparking an interesting theory about Clone Wars and The Book of Boba Fett villain Cad Bane.
He’s not likely to undergo Palpatine’s cloning treatment, but Bane’s death in Boba Fett may not have been as decisive as it seemed. The discovery of his current status in the latest Star Wars guide and history book is prompting questions about the character’s supposed demise.
Star Wars is far from the only franchise known for resuscitating the same characters over and over, but few genres are as guilty of the tendency as the world of comics. DC’s recent cinematic universe has already killed off and revived Superman once, and former complaints about the abandonment of Zack Snyder’s planned direction for the DCEU are starting to slow following news of the director’s plans for Wonder Woman. His initial goal, which would have massively reduced the character’s individuality and impact, thankfully never came to pass, but its revelation is urging sci-fi fans to recognize DC’s new direction as a very necessary change.
Speaking of Superman, the Man of Steel is undergoing yet another casting change, after Henry Cavill was ousted from his longstanding position. With Cavill gone, the revamped DCU is working to discover their next Superman actor, and one fan’s thoroughly unexpected pitch is turning heads — but not for the reasons you think.
A sly Ted 2 reference nearly dissolves the DC fandom
Quite a few DC fans approached Twitter user @RawbertBeef’s Superman fan casting a bit too seriously. They quickly lashed out at the idea of Jonah Hill donning the cape, noting his general removal from the vast majority of Clark Kent’s traits, only to be corrected by the original poster. It turns out his tweet was, in fact, a subtle Ted 2 reference. It went straight over the vast majority of commenters’ heads, however, and instead sparked a firestorm of fan castings and befuddled takeaways. There’s no telling who is set to play Superman next, but it turns out very few people would stand behind Hill if he (somehow) cinched the role.
Zack Snyder’s original Wonder Woman plan gets thoroughly lambasted
We’ve heard some truly atrocious Wonder Woman pitches before — including Joss Whedon’s painfully sexist near-miss — but Zack Snyder’s potential direction for the character might just be the worst. He recently unveiled his defunct plans to strip the character of her mythological background — a staple of the character — and instantly drew broad backlash. His (blessedly abandoned) plans to insert a major reveal that the pantheon of Greek gods were actually Kryptonians would have gone over horribly with fans, had it ever come to pass, and it’s serving to remind people of how fortunate we are that the Snyderverse is in the rear-view.
Some careful wording sparks questions about Cad Bane’s mortality
Cad Bane’s death, mid-way through the first season of The Book of Boba Fett, seemed pretty definitive, but a careful bit of wording is throwing his demise into doubt. The latest Star Wars guide and history book classifies Bane as “out of action,” rather than deceased, and instantly sparked theories that he survived his fight with Fett. Bane certainly seemed to be on a quick road to the other side at the conclusion of his stand-off against Fett, but some fans are convinced that he’ll return to the Star Wars universe some day.
