How does one follow in the footsteps of the great, apocalypse-cancelling Stacker Pentecost? That’s a question that will no doubt factor into the storyline of Pacific Rim: Uprising, as John Boyega’s budding Jaeger pilot Jake fights to uphold his family name.
But Idris Elba’s PPDC (Pan Pacific Defense Corps) chief leaves some mighty big boots to fill, and though it’s impossible to gauge the context of this scene based on Boyega’s latest Instagram post alone (via Polygon), it’s safe to assume that the pensive Jake Pentecost seen below is reflecting on his father’s legacy – not to mention the new wave of kaiju clawing their way back through the Breach to wreak havoc.
Cometh the man, cometh the hour? Here’s the latest, rather moody shot of John Boyega’s lead character on the set of Pacific Rim: Uprising.
Production on Steven S. DeKnight’s blockbuster sequel continues apace Down Under and just yesterday, we brought you yet another wave of set videos that shed light on some of the stuntwork and VFX going into the creation of Uprising. There was also a new peek at Scott Eastwood’s Nate Lamber storming the streets, rifle in hand, leading us to believe that those early story rumors of the PPDC locking horns with the invading aliens on a ground level, as opposed to just kaiju vs. Jaeger action, may be on point after all. One way or another, the human resistance isn’t about to go down without a fight, that’s for sure.
Pacific Rim: Uprising is on course to hit theaters on February 23rd, 2018, at which point Jing Tian, Lana Condor, Cailee Spaeny, Adria Arjona and Ukrainian up-and-comer Ivanna Sakhno will round out DeKnight’s ensemble cast.
