Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is doing its best to cure Marvel of its recent string of bad luck, but it’s only helping extend the even longer curse the DCU has been under, despite the threequel’s director being the latter franchise’s new CEO. Elsewhere, Karen Gillan might’ve goofed when she inadvertently encouraged a friend to sign up for an infamous Sony movie. Last but not least, the Scarlet Witch’s run as the MCU’s biggest gun might be over as a familiar face from Elizabeth Olsen’s past threatens to usurp her position…
Elizabeth Olsen’s real-life bestie could become her on-screen nemesis as the MCU might’ve found someone stronger than Wanda
The Scarlet Witch has remained unchallenged as arguably the MCU multiverse’s most powerful personage for the past couple of years, but according to the newest rumors the franchise may be finally about to introduce someone stronger… Ironically played by one of Elizabeth Olsen’s best pals. Word has it that Aubrey Plaza’s Agatha: Coven of Chaos role could see her portray a witch who exceeds even Wanda’s wiles. Let’s hope this means we’ll get to see the former Ingrid Goes West co-stars (who have an affectionate friendship that the internet adores) face-off in the future.
The Flash is no longer on course to be 2023’s best superhero movie, thanks to DC chief James Gunn
With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Shazam! Fury of the Gods flopping, The Flash looked set for a clear sprint to the finish line to become 2023’s finest superhero flick… Until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 came along and convinced everyone that ain’t gonna happen. That means James Gunn has ended up, by his own intervention, preventing his own franchise from finally beating the MCU to what would’ve been a much-needed and easy win. Warner Bros. is likely very thankful Gunn will be a full-time DC boy from now on. Although Marvel will no doubt miss his secret script consultations.
Did Karen Gillan know what she was doing when she convinced her Doctor Who co-star to join the worst-ever Marvel movie?
With Karen Gillan cementing her status as one of the most reliable presences in the entire MCU — she’s appeared in five of the franchise’s finest offerings… plus, Thor: Love and Thunder — those with long memories are reminding themselves that, while her Marvel career has been nothing but roses, she accidentally chained a Doctor Who co-star into appearing in one of the most infamous comic book flicks ever made. We are of course talking about Matt Smith and his scenery-chewing, dad-dancing villainous turn in Morbius, a role he only accepted because Gillan told him how much she enjoyed her own Marvel experience. Maybe Smith should’ve realized Gillan worked for Marvel Studios not Sony.
Don’t cry, like those gullible Guardians fans who believed a brutally misleading trailer moment, more of the latest Marvel news will tear up the place soon enough.
