Hayley Atwell is lighting up the silver screen opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, so it seems it’s time for her to tell all about her real thoughts on her most recent — and potentially final — role in a Marvel movie. Elsewhere, Deadpool 3 fans were in heaven after all the Hugh Jackman excitement earlier this week, but now an unfortunate update is bringing us kicking and screaming back down to Earth… specifically, Earth-616.
Deadpool 3 forced to halt production as the SAG-AFTRA strike starts, so it’s time to come down from cloud nine
The biggest story in the entertainment industry this week is naturally the commencement of the SAG-AFTRA strike, while the biggest story in the Marvel universe is our first look at Hugh Jackman in the classic Wolverine costume as Deadpool 3 gets knuckle-deep into production. Unfortunately, those two developments have now collided in the most disappointing way possible, with DP3 forced to shut up shop for the time being as the strike takes effect. While it’s for a good cause, obviously, we’ve waited 23 years to see Jackman in those yellow and blue togs so it’s hard to be anything other than devastated at the prospect of him being taken away again.
Hayley Atwell feels the exact same about her “weird” and “lame” Doctor Strange 2 cameo as the rest of us
Hayley Atwell will continue to voice Captain Carter in the What If…? animated series, but she may well have put her live-action Marvel career behind her now that she’s the leading lady of a rival blockbuster franchise over in Mission: Impossible land. It certainly sounds that way, anyhoo, given that Atwell can’t stop dunking on her Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness cameo, admitting that she’s fully on board with the fans’ complaints that the movie definitely did not serve the character well. In terms of roasting her role in the film, you might say… she could do this all day.
A Secret Invasion star’s secret talents means you’ve heard them in the MCU before, but not seen them
Here’s an interesting tidbit to lighten the mood for Secret Invasion viewers as the tone of the Disney Plus series gets ever darker. The series might be Dermot Mulroney’s first time appearing in the MCU, in the part of President Ritson, but this is not his the first brush with the MCU overall. For those who didn’t know (which is basically everyone, except any hardcore Mulronians out there), the former romcom icon also happens to be a professional cellist — he even featured as part of composer Michael Giacchino’s orchestra for one of the Spider-Man movies. Mulroney, you dark horse. Or silver fox, as the case may be.
Whether it’s the promise of a Harrison Ford cameo or the shadow of the curse of the Scarlet Witch, more Marvel updates are never far away, so keep your eyes peeled.
