There’s a new DC Juggernaut in town and Idris Elba says his name is James Gunn. Also, Dwayne Johnson wasn’t that bad in Black Adam and he even has the bling to prove it. Also can someone please explain how the space-time continuum works to General Zod?
DC’s Bloodshot thinks James Gunn will be an “unstoppable” match for the MCU
He’s played major roles in both of the major comic book movie universes but the man who played Heimdall in Thor and Bloodshot in The Suicide Squad says his money is on James Gunn. Idris Elba revealed in a recent interview with Comic Book.com that he has every faith that his former director will be the architect of a shared DC universe that will be just as mighty as the MCU.
“He’s a genius, right? And I can’t think of anyone better to jump into the authorship of what happens in the DC Universe. He knows it better than anyone, but also he just has such a great imagination, great taste profile,” Elba stated. “I think the DC Universe is gonna be like unstoppable under his watch.”
The present MCU is currently in a prime position for competition to take the ball from them. With a lackluster Phase Four and a Phase 5 that seems as if there’s nothing great on the horizon, DCU could easily become the go-to reliable studio for quality superhero movies.
Dwayne Johnson just picked up not one but two awards for a pair of DC duds
The Rock may not have been nominated for any Oscar gold despite DC’s questionable decision to submit Black Adam in a variety of Academy Award categories but that doesn’t mean that Dwayne Johnson is going to walk out of Awards season empty-handed. Despite their less-than-impressive showings at the box office, Johnson recently picked up awards for his performances in both Black Adam and League of Super-Pets. So even if neither property spawned franchises as they were expected to at least Johnson will have some nice bling for his mantelpiece.
The Jungle Cruise actor picked up his new statuettes at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards where he won Favorite Movie Actor for Black Adam and Favorite Voice From an Animated Movie for voicing Krypto in Super-Pets. Johnson’s brief period of being the next big hope for DC was a short one but at least he’s not walking away completely empty-handed.
Michael Shannon isn’t exactly sure how General Zod fits into the multiverse of The Flash
We won’t sit here and argue whether or not the whole multiverse is tricky. It is. And while dying in most franchises means you aren’t going to be around for the next sequel, dying in a comic book movie, where the laws of physics are often outright defied, doesn’t mean your contract is up. You might even have to do more heavy lifting when your character manifests through a dimensional portal to fight the good guy all over again. So it’s no wonder why General Zod actor Michael Shannon doesn’t quite know what he’s doing in The Flash.
Shannon will be reprising his role as General Zod, the superpowered Kryptonian antagonist of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Zod was controversially slain by Superman himself in the movie’s climactic scene but Shannon himself seems unsure as to what exactly happened. I think I died in Man of Steel. Are they sure they got the right guy? But then they explained to me the whole multiverse phenomenon, which… I was a little behind the times on that,” Shannon explained to Looper.
Shannon freely admitted that he was out of his water when it comes to alternate realities. “I can’t say that I’m a huge consumer of this genre of films – not that I have anything against them. If I’m going to watch a movie, the odds are it’s not going to be one of those, but I sure love making them.”
