Tim Burton’s next film Big Eyes has been collecting quite the cast. The latest addition is Krysten Ritter, best known for her roles in Don’t Trust The B__ In Apartment 23 and Breaking Bad.

Ritter joins a cast that already includes Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams as artistic couple Walter and Margaret Keane, the creators of the pop culture ‘big eyes’ paintings of the 1950s and 60s. Krysten Ritter will play DeeAnn, a friend of Margaret Keane who encourages the housewife and true artist behind the paintings to come out of her shell and take credit for her work. Danny Huston also recently joined the cast as a gossip columnist.

Big Eyes is shaping up to be quite the film. Ritter definitely has that Tim Burton look – slim, dark and just this side of weird. She’s already done good work on TV, but has been limited in film to secondary characters (Confessions Of A Shopaholic, Shes Out Of My League). While Big Eyes won’t exactly launch her to leading lady status, she will have a chance to flex her muscles a bit more. She also gets to work with one of the leading directors of the weird, which can never be a bad thing.

Big Eyes was written by the team of Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, who also penned Tim Burton’s other major biopic Ed Wood. Based on the synopsis, not to mention the cast, it sounds like a return to what Burton does best: bizarre, quirky characters with an edge of melancholy. If the actual paintings that the Keanes did are any indication, this one is going to be weird.
