Screen Rant is reporting that actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse has opened up about Kick-Ass 2 and among the many details that he spilt, he told the website that some of the more controversial scenes from the book, like the rape scene, will not show up in the film.
Stating that his character will finally become “a complete villain,” Mintz-Plasse went onto say that the movie will be “fu**ed-up” and very “brutal and dark.” As brutal and dark as it may be, the movie will still shy away from some of the more controversial scenes in the book, like the gang rape.
“The rape scene is not in it. There’s a version of it but there’s no rape. Thank God.”
Admittedly, I’m a bit disappointed to hear this. I mean, it’s not like I enjoy seeing rape scenes or anything but I always hate when studios shy away from controversy. I get that they need to sell tickets but still, the profit shouldn’t come before staying faithful to the source. Plus, Kick-Ass 2 will already be a hard-R film anyways, it’s not like that one scene would push it from PG-13 to R.
On top of all that, the first film was pretty dark and violent, so why not just take the same no holds barred approach for this one?
It seems odd to me but still, I remain hopeful that the film will turn out to be a faithful adaptation of its source.
Kick-Ass 2 will head into production next month and aim for a 2013 release.
