The Kingsman franchise will return later this year not with Kingsman 3 but a prequel that takes place a hundred years ago and aims to tell the story of the founding of the upper class secret service. Said to be titled The Great Game, it’s already cast Harry Dickinson and Ralph Fiennes in the Eggsy/Galahad-type roles and now, a whole host of exciting actors have been revealed to be joining them.
First up is Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who’ll be reuniting with Vaughn after the two of them brought us Kick-Ass. Though the specifics of his part are being kept under wraps, given his star power in Hollywood, it’s expected to be a big role. But that’s not all. Far from it, in fact.
In addition to Taylor-Johnson, we can now tell you that Matthew Goode, Gemma Arterton and Tom Hollander have all boarded the pic, while it’s also been confirmed that as previously rumored, Rhys Ifans, Charles Dance and Daniel Brühl are involved as well. Ditto for Djimon Hounsou and Alison Steadman, who’ve also been linked to the project previously.
All things considered, it makes for a rather remarkable cast, and we simply can’t wait to see what Vaughn has cooked up for us. From what we know so far, the prequel will be a period drama which lets us in on the secret history of the world as told from the Kingsman organization’s perspective. All this will be focused around the Saville Row tailor base that we’ve seen in the previous movies.
The Kingsman prequel is currently set to hit theaters on November 9th, 2019. Kingsman 3, the next mainline installment which will see Taron Egerton return as Eggsy, will then follow the year after, with a Statesman spinoff – focusing on the Kingsman’s American cousins – also said to be in the works, too. Suffice it to say, it’s a good time to be a fan of the franchise.
