In the wake of “deeply troubling” allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment, Hollywood veteran Kevin Spacey is now said to be “taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment.”
This statement, which comes by way of The Hollywood Reporter, is Spacey’s first transmission since Sunday, when he was accused of making unwanted sexual advances toward a minor – Anthony Rapp (Star Trek: Discovery), in this instance, who was only 14-years-old at the time of the alleged incident.
A representative for the House of Cards actor said that, “Kevin Spacey is taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment. No other information is available at this time,” but failed to disclose what kind of treatment he has requested.
Either way, the shamed actor is one of several prominent Hollywood figures who have been called into question of late. Just yesterday, for instance, the Los Angeles Times posted a troubling exposé on Brett Ratner, after six actresses – Olivia Munn (The Predator) included – came forward with allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct against the Rush Hour director. It didn’t take long before Ratner’s planned Hugh Hefner biopic unraveled – the official word says the long-gestating drama is “on hold” – while Dustin Hoffman has also been accused of unacceptable behavior.
Kevin Spacey, meanwhile, is facing a similar predicament. In light of Sunday’s accusations, Netflix halted all production on House of Cards, and later confirmed that the show’s sixth season, which is tentatively on course for a premiere in 2018, would be its last. The online streamer is said to be considering multiple spinoff series, though we can’t imagine they’ll get off the ground anytime soon.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on the Kevin Spacey saga as it continues to unfold, and we can only hope that those guilty are brought to justice before long.
