Marvel’s imminent Thor: Ragnarok is literally worlds apart from the Thor movies of old, and head honcho Kevin Feige believes the film’s quirky nature is a sign of things to come.
Chatting at the recent red carpet premiere in Los Angeles (via ComicBook.com), Feige pointed to the three films succeeding Ragnarok – namely Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp – as three “very different, very unique” additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only that, but it looks like Peyton Reed’s miniature sequel, which has been lensing across parts of Atlanta for months now, is on the verge of wrapping principal photography.

All of the next films by design have been built to be very different, to be very unique. Ragnarok, Black Panther, certainly as we get into Infinity War and even Ant-Man and the Wasp, which is nearing the end of their production period right now. All four of those movies are distinct and special and I can’t wait for people to see. Thankfully they get to see Ragnarok starting now.
On paper, it’s hard not to notice that sizeable differences between the likes of Black Panther, Infinity War and the Ant-Man sequel. The first is a standalone pic rooted in the fictional African nation of Wakanda, while Infinity War is shaping up to be the event movie to end all event movies.
And though it’s no surprise to hear Kevin Feige praising his own lineup, it’s refreshing to hear that the next four Marvel movies will be unique and different in their own little way, lest the MCU fall prey to franchise fatigue.
Buoyed by stellar reviews, Thor: Ragnarok is certainly on course for a healthy debut at the worldwide box office in three weeks’ time. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($863 million) and Spider-Man: Homecoming ($877 million) are the two Marvel films to beat – for 2017, at least – so it’ll be intriguing to watch on as Waititi’s threequel begins to make its box office climb.
