If you’ve been keeping track of the various rumors and speculation around Marvel’s future, then you’ll know that fans are putting a lot of pressure on the Quantum Realm to open up the MCU in ways previously unseen. And sure enough, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has hinted that this Ant-Man and the Wasp setting still holds more stories to tell.
Feige is known to choose his words very carefully when discussing future plans for the franchise. But while his interviews in the upcoming book Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years may not drop any major spoilers, it seems that the producer has at least eased up on the self-regulation enough to discuss how the Quantum Realm has helped expand the boundaries of this cinematic universe.
“At the end of Ant-Man we followed Scott Lang into the Quantum Realm for the first time. We were beginning to peel back the onion that would later be completely peeled back in Doctor Strange as we go into the multiverse. So that was our little test into that.
“But now the Quantum Realm is a whole other territory that we can play with to tell our stories. This Quantum Realm is much larger than we ever imagined, and there are all sorts of adventures to be had at that level, which perhaps we will explore in another film.”
Ant-Man star Michael Douglas has already let it slip that this mysterious place will play an integral role in next year’s Avengers 4. On top of that, if some old comments from the spoiler-prone Tom Holland are anything to go by, Doctor Strange in particular will be discussing this alternate dimension in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War sequel, having briefly visited the realm already in his first standalone film.
What exactly there is to be found in the Quantum Realm remains to be seen, but various clues seem present in the mid-credits sequence of Ant-Man and the Wasp, in which Scott Lang becomes trapped in this place right after being warned about “time vortexes.” You can expect Avengers 4 to take over from here when the film hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
