For months now, fans have been discussing which characters from the MCU survived Thanos’ finger snap of doom at the climax of Avengers: Infinity War. But what about the folks who reside in Fox’s half of the Marvel universe? I mean, the Mad Titan’s actions could’ve reverberated through the entire multiverse, right? With that in mind, how would the cast of Deadpool 2 have been affected by his wrath?
Well, according to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, they wouldn’t have been. Speaking to Variety earlier this week, the super producer stated that since Wade Wilson isn’t in the MCU, the snap didn’t affect him.
“Technically speaking, [Deadpool] was not in the MCU, he was not in that cinematic universe, so he was not affected, probably,” Feige said.
Continuing on, he touched on the upcoming Disney/Fox merger, stating though it’s not a done deal just yet, he’s got ideas about how to bring DP and the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe:
“What I will say is, for years and years the dream has been to have access to as many of our characters back so that we can tell those stories at Marvel Studios. If and when that happens, I’ll be very excited. … We have ideas just from going back 18 years, but nothing specific.”
Given that Ryan Reynolds’ take on the Rob Liefeld character is an audience favorite and has repeatedly broken box office records for R-rated movies, we imagine Feige has big plans for Deadpool and whether that means having him cross paths with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes or placing him on a different track in the MCU, we’re excited to see where the character goes once he’s back home at Marvel Studios.
As for what’s next for Wade? Well, Ryan Reynolds has been coy about a Deadpool 3, but there is X-Force to look forward to, assuming it doesn’t get scrapped in the wake of the merger. And if that’s a success, then we imagine Kevin Feige and co. will keep the gang together once they get their hands on them, ensuring that the Merc with a Mouth is a fixture on our screens for the foreseeable future.
