Because the proposed acquisition of 21st Century Fox by The Walt Disney Company is in an utmost precarious state, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is currently working his way through the fallout, despite making his intention clear last month.
As if he didn’t have enough on his plate already, what with Captain Marvel about to enter post-production, Phase Three pièce de résistance Avengers 4 headed for “pick-ups,” and principal photography on Spider-Man: Far From Home officially underway, Feige is now forced to deal with the possible integration of the X-Men into the MCU. However, the Marvel Studios President of Production insists he knows where his priorities lie.
“My desire is to get Ant-Man and the Wasp in theatres and successful. Then complete filming on Captain Marvel this week and to get the next Spider-Man on camera, then to continue to work on Avengers 4 in the cutting room. I’m very busy for the foreseeable future.”
Feige then – “not entirely convincingly,” I might add – maintained that “there are no plans in development” to integrate the X-Men into the MCU, should The Walt Disney Company obtain the rights to intellectual properties owned by 21st Century Fox. Though he still has some vague ideas as to how it could happen.
“Not until we’re given the word. I have vague dreams and vague ideas. But right now, bringing to life the 10,000-plus characters that Marvel fully controls is what the game plan is.”
Having reportedly accepted the new and enhanced Disney proposal – which is believed to have the green light from the Department of Justice – 21st Century Fox has set July 27th as the date stockholders will vote on the proposed buyout. That is, of course, barring any counter-offer put forth by Comcast, who’s certainly put a damper on the entire situation as of late.
Nonetheless, Feige, who’s previously admitted it “would be nice to have access to that entire library,” is not alone in secretly hoping the evil global telecommunications conglomerate doesn’t thwart the amalgamation between Disney and Fox. This past weekend, for instance, X-Men: Dark Phoenix star Sophie Turner stated: “I just want to be another Avenger.” Unfortunately though, at least for the time being, Feige and Turner are star-crossed lovers.
