We’ve been hearing an awful lot lately about Quentin Tarantino‘s upcoming spaghetti western Django Unchained. Recently we got the news that Tarantino personally chose Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx to play the lead role of Django, with other recent news including Leonardo DiCaprio joining as the villain Calvin Candie.
Now comes word that Kerry Washington is in the running to play the role of Django’s wife, Broomhilda. It’s not a very big role, but it is an important one as she is the reason that Django risks his own life to go up against Candie and his men. Washington might not be a particularly well-known actress, but she has been in some notable films including The Last King of Scotland, Ray, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. There will probably be some other names thrown into the ring soon, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
Django Unchained tells the story of a slave, Django, freed by a German bounty hunter called Schultz (Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz). Schultz teaches Django to be a bounty hunter, who then uses these skills to go on a mission to rescue his wife who is being held captive by Calvin Candie, a brutal club owner.
The cast is shaping up to be a great one, and we already know the script is pretty good, so here’s hoping Tarantino’s able to deliver yet another great film. It’s due to begin filming later this year and has been scheduled for release on Christmas Day 2012.
