Of all the many big names being teased for The Expendables 3, did you ever think that Twilight actor Kellan Lutz would be added to the mix? The thought never crossed my mind, but that’s where we’re at now as it’s been reported that the actor is in talks to join the upcoming action flick.
Kellan Lutz will be playing a member of a gang of younger, tech-savvy mercenaries initially in conflict with the Expendables, but who eventually team up with our favorite middle-aged badasses. This information ranks among the first really concrete plot details to come out from the film, which so far has teased a lot of stars with no plot. Lutz is significantly younger than the other members of the Expendables, with the exception of the short-lived Liam Hemsworth of The Expendables 2.
Kellan Lutz joins a constantly growing cast that includes Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li and Milla Jovovich. Among the names that have been mentioned as possible villains or cameos are Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Mel Gibson and Steven Seagal. Here I thought that The Expendables couldn’t get much more testosterone-y.
I guess that Stallone and director Patrick Hughes are shooting for a younger demographic by casting Lutz in The Expendables 3. You may remember him as Emmett Cullen in the Twilight franchise, if you managed to look past Robert Pattinson’s sparkling skin. Given that the median age of the other Expendables is somewhere around 45-50, maybe a shot of young blood is necessary.
The Expendables 3 will come to theatres on August 15th, 2014. By then we should actually have a cast list and I, for one, will be very excited.
Does Lutz sound like a good addition to The Expendables 3? Can he possibly survive the storm of badass, or will he be blown to pieces? Let us know in the comments below.
