As if headlining another John Wick, joining a treasured franchise like Toy Story, or making waves in a cameo appearance in Netflix’s Always Be My Maybe wasn’t enough for one summer, Keanu Reeves‘ character’s earning just as many accolades. His demeanor with female fans has made him a standout icon in the wake of the #MeToo movement, and all of this has combined to create, yes, another online petition.
This time, however, it’s a reasonable request. People are campaigning that The Matrix star be named Time Magazine’s Person of the Year. Hey, it could happen, especially with over 136,000 signatures (myself included).
But that’s a whole lot of love for one man. And from the looks of it, Reeves isn’t exactly sure how to handle the Keanussance. Recently speaking to PeopleTV on the red carpet for Toy Story 4, the 54-year-old actor was stunned to learn about the internet’s adoration for him. When asked if he knew about any of this, here’s what he had to say:
“That’s whacky,” Reeves admitted. “Well the positivity’s great.”
He went on to thank the fans for their support with John Wick and Always Be My Maybe, at the same time shying away from the initial question. But this dodgy reply wouldn’t be a one-time thing. In another interview with ET Online, Reeves nearly copied and pasted his response when the topic was brought up again.
“It’s been really nice and special for me. Just how well the John Wick film was received and then also recently with Always Be My Maybe and then being connected with CD Projekt Red. I’ve just had the chance to be working with really cool people and be a part of really cool projects.”
Though it’d probably work with any other actor, if Reeves wants to keep the spotlight away from him, being nice and humble isn’t going to do it. All he’s doing is throwing himself even deeper into the fans’ embrace.
