John Wick: Chapter 2 wasn’t a perfect sequel, but it still managed to build significantly on the world and story introduced by the first movie while also going bigger in every way imaginable, boasting a larger budget, a longer runtime and a much higher body count. And seeing how things ended with the titular hero on the kill list of almost the entire global assassin community, it doesn’t seem likely that director Chad Stahelski plans to scale things down for John Wick Chapter 3 – Parabellum.
In fact, in a recent interview, the filmmaker revealed that the third movie’s kill count will “land slightly north” of the corresponding figure for the last outing, and if Parabellum‘s first trailer – seen above – is anything to go by, it certainly seems like we’re in for another violent, action-packed ride, as Keanu Reeves returns to the role and looks more than happy to dish out a healthy dose of pain on anyone who gets in his way.
As series regular Winston put it,“A $14 million bounty on his head and everyone in the city wants a piece of it – I’d say the odds are about even.” Of course, though John has already proven himself to be a one-man army, a few friends surely wouldn’t hurt, and so the trailer sees our hero pleading for safe passage from Anjelica Huston’s character The Director, who for all her sway as a member of the Hight Table, says she can’t help him.
Nonetheless, an assassin named Sofia, played by Halle Berry, looks willing to buddy up with the film’s title character, and better yet, it seems that her two dogs are pretty vicious fighters in their own right. We’ll find out if all these new companions are enough to get our hero out of a desperate situation when John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum hits theaters on May 17th, 2019.
