Ke Huy Quan made his name in a pair of solid gold 1980s classics. In Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, he played Indy’s sidekick Short Round, following that up with Data in The Goonies one year later. Sadly, Quan subsequently found it difficult to get roles and decided to switch focus to being a stunt and fight coordinator, notably helping Hugh Jackman shape Wolverine’s fighting style in 2000’s X-Men.
But last year he made a truly incredible comeback with Everything Everywhere All at Once, for which he picked up a well-deserved Academy Award (and a slew of other honors). Quan is now set to make his MCU debut in Loki season 2, as well as appearing in Disney Plus show American Born Chinese.
Last night he went back to his roots by attending the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny premiere, where he paid tribute to star Harrison Ford for inspiring his love of acting, before explaining his adulation to Entertainment Tonight:
“Every time I see him – he’s such a gracious man, such a humble man. And the reason why I love acting so much is because of him, because of that experience that we had on Temple of Doom. So, here we are so many years later. I can’t help myself. Every time I see him, or Steven [Spielberg], or George [Lucas], I have to give him a big hug, because these men changed my life. Who would’ve thought that 39 years ago we premiered Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom right next door at the Mann’s Chinese Theater, and so to be able to be here tonight is incredible.”
We can’t wait to see Quan bringing his multiversal expertise to the MCU when Loki season 2 begins this fall. He’ll be playing a TVA archivist, though Marvel Studios would be seriously missing a trick if it didn’t tap into his impeccable martial arts and action credentials.
So roll on Loki‘s return to Disney Plus on Oct 6.
