When it comes to enduring characters like superheroes, it’s just expected that they be continually recast as time passes. But in the case of specific ones, there exists a certain beauty due to them having successors in the comic books. And to my delight, we’re already seeing this play out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Sam Wilson AKA the Falcon is now running with the torch as Captain America.
Similarly, Jane Foster will be doing likewise in Thor: Love and Thunder. But instead of wielding a star spangled shield, Natalie Portman will prove herself worthy of lifting the mighty hammer known as Mjolnir. And if all goes well, we could very well see her in the New Avengers lineup.
Unsurprisingly, former Thor co-star Kat Dennings is all for this, saying the following to People:
“I love that. I think that’s genius. It is so smart, and it’s accurate [from the comics]. I am so excited. As a fan of Marvel projects, I am so excited.”
Naturally, we’re all wondering if Dennings will reprise her role as Darcy Lewis. Well, not even she knows the answer to that, adding:
“I hope so! We’d all like to know that answer, I don’t know as of right now. I would like to, I am a huge fan of [director Taika Watiti], he’s one of my favorite directors of all time. He’s incredible. So purely from a thing of I love all of those people, I love Marvel and I would love to go back. I also really want to work with him, but I don’t know.”
Truthfully, I’d like to see her invited back because I did enjoy Darcy as a supporting character. And though Kat has since landed on her feet by securing a gig on Dollface following 2 Broke Girls‘ unfortunate cancellation, it doesn’t seem like she minds the extra workload.
Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in theaters on November 5th, 2021.
