On Friday, the Guardians of the Galaxy as we know them will bid audiences adieu when their third film opens in cinemas. Before this, they had The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and, if more does happen, one series star envisions a romantic piece.
While speaking with Screen Rant for an interview in the above footage, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff were asked about a tease in the trailers for the latest film where it appears Peter Quill and Nebula may explore some sort of relationship. In response to the notion, Gillan said she could see a His Girl Friday-type production with the characters, and, if it did happen, it would have the same style of dialogue much of Marvel’s media content is now known for.
“It would be a very quippy back and forth, witty banter … like, bickering all the time in a sort of fun way. I guess I am [pitching a rom-com]. Nebula gets her arm stuck in a floor grate and then Star Lord has to get her out. They have a meet-cute.”
Were it made, the pair’s interviewer suggested it could be called The Guardians of the Galaxy Valentine’s Day Special, and while they do not revisit the idea later on in the footage, Gillan does say she feels like she has become a better performer over the course of her time in the franchise, Klementieff adds the dynamic of their characters in the film is different from real life as they almost never argue, and, while nothing is official now, more of Marvel’s special presentations are on the way. So, assuming Gillan’s character and Pratt’s survive the upcoming film, it is possible they could find love with each other somewhere down the line.
However, fans are not the most open to the idea at this time, and instead, would rather the actresses get together on film.
“NOOOO its not Peter-Nebula that should make a romcom!!! It should be Nebula and Mantis. Pom and Karen should know that nobody ships Peter and Nebula in the fandom its always Peter and Gamora who is paired up and Nebula and Mantis. They’re the grumpy x sunshine duo!!!”
