Marvel Studios are going to some extreme lengths to keep the content of the upcoming Avengers 4 under wraps, with even the film’s cast receiving minimal information on the very movie they’re in.
In this year’s Avengers: Infinity War, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes were divided across various parts of the galaxy, meaning that no one character got a complete picture of how Thanos’ genocidal plan unfolded, save for the Mad Titan himself. It’s in a similar manner that each actor only got to see one part of the elephant for this next feature, with Karen Gillan recalling on The Wrap’s Shoot This Now podcast how she was only told what she needed to know for her performance.
“We didn’t even get a script. There was no script,” Gillan said. “Just my scenes. I’d sometimes get them just in the morning, do them, hand them back over at the end of the day. I mean, the directors would fill us in on everything that we needed in terms of context, but still, I don’t know what this movie’s about (laughs).”
In this same interview, the Nebula actress admitted that she still doesn’t know what the film will actually be called. Sure enough, Don Cheadle made the same claim to ignorance earlier this month on Twitter, but not before trolling his fans with “hints” of the name. From these two cases, we can gather that most, if not all, of the cast have yet to learn what title they should be putting on their résumés. This suggests that Mark Ruffalo was never really in danger of dropping a spoiler when he appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, making it all the harsher that directors Anthony and Joe Russo chose to fake-fire him.
In any case, the highly anticipated Avengers 4 will finally be surrendering all of its secrets when it hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019, and from the sound of things, the cast won’t be finding out about the fate of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes much sooner than we do.
