A cool new action/thriller film has popped up on my radar this week. It’s called In Time and stars Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. 20th Century Fox brought the movie to San Diego’s Comic-Con and they showed off a couple posters as well as the first footage from the movie. Up until this point, all we had seen were some photos, but with the new four minute trailer that was released, we get a much better look at this very promising film from director Andrew Niccol.
Aiming for an October 28th, 2011 release, the film has an impressive supporting cast that includes Cillian Muphy, Vincent Kartheiser, Alex Pettyfer, Johnny Galecki, Olivia Wilde and Matthew Bomer. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing Kartheiser (Mad Men) and Galecki (The Big Bang Theory) on the big screen. They’re great in their respected roles on television but it will be nice seeing them in a feature film and in new roles, since we’re so used to watching them play the same character all the time.
“In Time takes place in a world where time has become the ultimate currency. You stop aging at 25, but there’s a catch: you’re genetically-engineered to live only one more year, unless you can buy your way out of it. The rich ‘earn’ decades at a time (remaining at age 25), becoming essentially immortal, while the rest beg, borrow or steal enough hours to make it through the day. When a man from the wrong side of the tracks is falsely accused of murder, he is forced to go on the run with a beautiful hostage. Living minute to minute, the duo’s love becomes a powerful tool in their war against the system.”
It seems like a really interesting film and with that cast, this one could turn out to be a nice little surprise. Andrew Niccol is also another reason I’m excited for the film. Both Gattaca and Lord Of War were great movie and if anyone is up for handling this futuristic sci-fi premise, it’s Niccol. Not only is he directing In Time, but he also wrote it, which gives me faith since he was the man who penned classics like The Truman Show and The Terminal. Once again, two fantastic films. The only film I didn’t like that came from Niccol was S1m0ne.
The footage below looks awesome and as long as the plot doesn’t get too ridiculous, farfetched or crazy (and it sounds like it could), I think this one will be one worth checking out. Like I said above though, I think Niccol can handle both the script and the premise and we shouldn’t be too worried about the outcome of this film.
