Deadline is reporting that Paramount has finally found a director for Star Trek 3 in the form of Justin Lin. The Fast & Furious 6 helmer will be replacing Roberto Orci, who departed not too long ago after being chosen to replace original franchise director, J.J. Abrams, who is now currently busy working in a galaxy far, far away.
Speaking of being busy, Lin is quite in demand at the moment, and one of his projects that has now been shuffled is the Jeremy Renner-led Bourne film, which has been postponed since Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass will be returning to the franchise. It’s because of this that Lin is now free to helm Star Trek 3, as the studio previously had their eye on him but weren’t sure that his schedule would permit him to take the job.
What this means for the Fast & Furious franchise is unknown, as there was talk of the director returning to helm the final instalments. However, now that he’s on board for Star Trek 3, his plate is going to be full for some time. I can’t see Universal waiting around for him to finish up with Trek and my money is on the studio going elsewhere for a director to cap off their franchise.
Star Trek 3 will beam into theatres in 2016. Tell us, are you happy to see that Justin Lin has been chosen to direct? Sound off below!
