Who’s Alfred talking to? That was the big question on DC fans’ lips after watching the Justice League trailer that was released this past summer at Comic-Con.
If you recall, the preview (above) ended with Alfred speaking to some unknown hero who’s apparently strong enough to act as the League’s secret weapon against General Steppenwolf and his Apokoliptian forces. “He told me you’d come,” Batman’s butler says to the stranger. “Now let’s hope you’re not too late.”
Naturally, most fans assume that this is Henry Cavill’s Superman, resurrected after his death at the hands of Doomsday in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. However, the other big fan theory is that it’s Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern – who’s ubiquitously rumored to be played by Armie Hammer.
One talented DC fan, who goes by the handle Datrinti, has now run with this possibility and imagined what it would look like if Hammer had turned up as Hal at the end of the Justice League trailer. In the image below, we see the actor using his Power Ring to conjure himself a mask like Ryan Reynold’s CGI costume in the 2011 Green Lantern, while a nice touch is the red jacket Hammer’s wearing, as a nod to the blurred red shoulder that can be glimpsed in the actual scene.
Fans continue to hope that Hammer will be cast in the role of the Emerald Knight, despite the actor citing several times that he hasn’t been contacted by Warner Bros. for the role. But then again, he’d probably say that even if he had been, right? At this point, all we can really do is speculate.
Of course, Armie Hammer was previously set to star as Batman in George Miller’s cancelled Justice League Mortal 10 years ago. Apart from how right the actor is for Jordan, it would be fitting if a cast member from a failed JL movie appeared in the actual one, don’t you think?
One way or another, we’ll find out for certain who Alfred’s talking to when Justice League arrives in cinemas on November 17th.
