Though Justice League is still teetering on the verge of release, Warner Bros. has already gone ahead and outlined the immediate future of its prized DC Extended Universe.
So far, that slate has made room for Aquaman, Shazam!, Nightwing and Flashpoint, along with sequels to both Suicide Squad and Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman movie. Only two of those DC tentpoles have locked down firm release dates (Wonder Woman 2, Aquaman), which really tells the story of the DCEU thus far – indeed, we’ve learned before that Warner Bros. has been hedging its bets when it comes to its superhero flagship, and won’t unveil too much before the launch of Justice League in November.
And though that may be true, ComicBook.com recently quizzed Ray Fisher (Victor Stone) about the mooted Cyborg spinoff, which was tentatively slated for a release in 2020. That launch window has been called into question of late, particularly with so many projects brewing over at Warner Bros.
However that may be, Ray Fisher fans can take solace in one thing: the Justice League actor has already been briefed about Cyborg’s next appearance in the DCEU.
Yes, I do. I know the next film that I’ll be Cyborg on.
The Batman, perhaps? Or will Ray Fisher’s bionic superhero swing by Flashpoint? So many questions, so few answers. Even still, it looks like that fabled Cyborg spinoff is still in development, and it may be “slightly more intimate” to its superhero brethren.
Things are in development. If I had my druthers, I think a Cyborg standalone would be a slightly more intimate story. One of the things that I always think is interesting with these sort of universes, is whenever there’s a world threatening crisis, it always makes you wonder, ‘Where are the other members of the group? Why didn’t they show up?’ I think finding an organic way to explain why these characters have to have their solo mission.
And it all begins with Justice League. Look for the Zack Snyder tentpole to open on November 17th.
