Justice League Dark Will Be Part Of The DC Cinematic Universe, Says Guillermo Del Toro

One in-development film missing from Warner Brothers' recently-announced DC Comics film slate was Guillermo del Toro's Justice League Dark. Its absence led many to believe that the film might not be part of the burgeoning DC Cinematic Universe. We know that the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Sandman will be part of a "separate slate of films," so positioning Justice League Dark in the same way, or even making it a standalone picture, would make sense.

One in-development film missing from Warner Brothers’ recently-announced DC Comics film slate was Guillermo del Toro’s Justice League Dark. Its absence led many to believe that the film might not be part of the burgeoning DC Cinematic Universe. We know that the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman will be part of a “separate slate of films,” so positioning Justice League Dark in the same way, or even making it a standalone picture, would make sense.

According to del Toro himself, however, that’s not the case. The director was recently interviewed by Collider about his potential involvement in Universal’s future Frankenstein movie, and dropped a hint regarding JLD‘s ties to the rest of the DC slate:

“I haven’t followed up with Frankenstein so I really have very little to add to that. Right now the only sort of shared universe project I’m working on is Dark Universe for Warners, you know, for DC, which is Swamp Thing, Demon, Deadman, Zatanna. It’s a very different universe. As to the plans to the other one, I wish I had an inside track right now.”

Considering that there’s little room in the DC slate until 2020, it could be some time before we see the supernatural team – which includes characters like Swamp Thing, John Constantine, Deadman and Zatanna – in their own solo film. But, del Toro has reportedly turned in a script draft, so it’s nice to see that the wheels are turning and that we may someday see these characters on screen next to the likes of the A-list heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the Suicide Squad.
