Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom stomps into uncharted territory with this brand new, super-sized Super Bowl promo.
Unveiled alongside teaser trailers for The Cloverfield Paradox and Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Universal has tonight showcased its undisputed heavyweight of 2018, and even from this footage alone, it’s immediately clear the studio is bringing its big guns as we brace for the annual deluge of summer blockbusters.
For in Fallen Kingdom, the Jurassic franchise will be flipped on its prehistoric head when the long-dormant Isla Nublar begins to erupt, which leaves Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) in quite the pickle as they begin marshaling dinos off the island and into safety.
It also takes place “several years” after its wildly successful predecessor, according to the official logline – which you can check out below.
The sequel — set several years after 2015’s billion-dollar smash Jurassic World — concerns a volcano on Isla Nublar that threatens the dinosaurs that had overrun the park at the end of the previous film. Who has the best shot at preventing the prehistoric beasts from becoming extinct (again)? That would be Chris Pratt’s dino trainer Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard’s former park manager, Claire Dearing.
Directed by franchise newcomer Juan Antonio Bayona, whose horror credentials have seemingly allowed for a more thrilling, nail-biting affair, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom roars into theaters on June 22nd. Can it possibly emulate the success of its cinematic ancestor, though?
We’d say it’s unlikely, as Colin Trevorrow’s franchise revival blew past all expectations to become the fourth highest-grossing movie of all time with $1.67 billion. But then again, there’s a considerable amount of hype surrounding the pic right now and given how good it’s been looking in all the footage we’ve seen so far, we wouldn’t rule it out just yet.
