Hero Complex is reporting some concerning news today. Director Joss Whedon, who is currently the talk of the town, is apparently “torn” about returning to direct The Avengers 2.
When asked if he’d return for the sequel, Whedon said:
“You know, I’m very torn. It’s an enormous amount of work telling what is ultimately somebody else’s story, even though I feel like I did get to put myself into it. But at the same time, I have a bunch of ideas, and they all seem really cool.”
Of course, I’m sure Marvel is doing everything they can to bring him back, given the success of the first film. After all, it would be silly to go with another director, Whedon is a big part of what made The Avengersr so awesome.
No doubt Whedon has tons of scripts piling up at his doorstep but what gig could be better than directing the sequel to what will probably be 2012’s biggest film? Plus, I really can’t see the sequel turning out as good if it doesn’t have the director’s magical touch. With so many heroes and universes to bring together, the film easily could have been a total mess but Whedon was able to balance everything absolutely perfectly.
If for some reason the studio does need to find another director, who do you think can fill Whedon’s shoes?
