If the name change for Joseph Kosinski’s newest film, Oblivion has lost your interest in the project then maybe this testing news will re-ignite it. /Film is reporting that Jessica Chastain, Olga Kurylenko, Noomi Rapace, Brit Marling and Olivia Wilde are all trying out for the lead female role opposite of Tom Cruise.
The film has been bouncing around titles just as it has distributors. Originally Disney was supposed to be handling the film but now it looks like it is property of Universal Studios. Whether the film will end up being called Oblivion or Horizons is still a question in itself, but at least we can start to grow some interest based on the casting news.
Tom Cruise is always a strong lead and I think it will be great seeing him star in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi film, especially if it’s alongside one of these lovely ladies.
I’m not sure who I think the role is best for, but right now I’m leaning strongest towards Brit Marling, who is making a name for herself both as a writer and actress in sci-fi. Olga Kurylenko and Olivia Wilde seem like odd choices, both actresses haven’t really done any work that sounds this ambitious or unique, but maybe they’re looking for a change? Jessica Chastain and Noomi Rapace are also two great actresses that would probably be a good fit for any role, but I still think Brit needs it more.
Starring in a big studio film alongside a popular actor like Tom Cruise could really be what she needs to get her name out there.

In a future where the Earth’s surface has been irradiated beyond recognition, the remnants of humanity live above the clouds, safe from the brutal alien Scavengers that stalk the ruins. But when surface drone repairman Jak discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, it sets off an unstoppable chain of events that will force him to question everything he knows.
It sounds like a good concept that will hopefully result in something entertaining. I have my doubts in director Joseph Kosinski after TRON: Legacy, but I am willing to set aside my doubts in hopes for a bold, studio sci-fi project with some top stars.
