New York Comic-Con is right around the corner, dear readers, and Lionsgate knows all about it.
Two weeks out from the annual trade show descending on America’s East Coast and the studio is already drumming up excitement for both Power Rangers – have a gander at those shimmering Dinozords – and John Wick: Chapter Two, Chad Stahelski’s hardboiled action sequel that heralds the return of Keanu Reeves as the titular force of nature.
Nipping at the shiny heels of yesterday’s character poster, one which featured the “bulletproof” Reeves, gun in hand, glowering directly at the camera, Entertainment Weekly quizzed Stahelski about all things Chapter Two, what it was like to assume full directing duties after David Leitch made tracks for The Coldest City, and how the 2017 sequel, almost inexplicably, crams in “twice as much action as the first movie.” Not only that, but Chapter Two will hit the ground running with a scintillating car chase. Hold onto your butts.
“I would say we had twice as much action as the first movie,” he says about the shoot. “We took it all a full notch up as far as the driving car stuff went. A great portion of the car chase in the opening of the film is Keanu, which is very impressive.”
Ever the one to dive headfirst into roles, Keanu Reeves endured a painstaking training process in preparation for John Wick two years ago, learning the deft art of gun techniques, Japanese martial arts and even drifting a car. Those skills will be on full display in the follow-up, judging by Stahelski’s comments, and we can hardly contain our excitement.
With a panel booked in for NYCC, keep your peepers peeled for that first teaser trailer. John Wick: Chapter Two will offer up a more action-oriented thrill ride than Fifty Shades Darker come February 10, 2017.
