Deadline’s reporting today that the filmmaker will indeed be back to direct the sequel to his 2018 smash hit, which enters production later this year in July, ahead of its May 15th, 2020 release. Plot details and the like still remain under wraps, and will for some time, but fans can at least rest easy knowing that the follow-up is in safe hands. Especially since Emily Blunt is confirmed to be returning to star as well, with Deadline noting that the actress’ deal is now closed.

In addition to earning the praise of critics, audiences and award-giving bodies, A Quiet Place also did extremely well for itself at the box office, taking in $340.7 million worldwide on roughly one twentieth of the budget. With numbers like that, it only made sense that a sequel would materialize and it didn’t take long for Paramount to announce one last year.

Again, details on the follow-up remain hazy at best at this early, early stage, but Krasinski has hinted previously that he’d like to further explore the world that the first film introduced us to, telling Deadline back in December that he wants to observe the unremittingly tense reality of A Quiet Place “from another perspective.” Obviously, he’s keeping things vague for now, but we’ll find out just what the filmmaker means by that cryptic tease when the sequel hits theaters on May 15th, 2020.
