Star Wars continues. After four years of expansion on Disney Plus, the galaxy will move forward. A follow-up to the sequel trilogy will mark the beginning of a new future of for the franchise, with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s feature taking place 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, with Daisy Ridley’s Rey training a New Jedi Order and helping usher in the new era.
Ridley was immediately confirmed to be a part of the film at Star Wars Celebration, but a new name from the sequels is floating around with rumors of return and reprisal. A recent mention in a podcast has led to whispers that John Boyega is returning as Finn, former stormtrooper FN-2187.
On The Hot Mic podcast, John Rocha claimed that new negotiations are happening between Kathleen Kennedy and Boyega’s reps concerning the actor’s comeback.
Notably, Boyega earlier claimed that he wouldn’t return to Star Wars despite his love for the series. Boyega was outspoken about his disappointment in how things were handled at Disney. The actor, who is a massive fan of the franchise, was unhappy that his character was pushed to the side, acknowledging it’s better to be out of the franchise and stay a fan.
However, per Rocha, it seems that he is burying the hatchet with Disney and renegotiating a deal.
Even if this rumor is a farce, one can’t deny that Finn hasn’t gotten his due in Star Wars. Finn debuted as a significant part of the sequels. His arc was of a stormtrooper who renounced the First Order and joined the rebellion as part of his redemption, eager to find a new place among new friends.
It was also heavily hinted that he is Force sensitive, given what he feels or hears at specific points in the trilogy. However, nothing came to fruition. Boyega’s return to the series and sharing the screen with Rey, who is now a full-grown Jedi master, would enable him to complete that aspect of his arc.
