Production on the upcoming Joker movie is finally wrapping after nearly three months of filming, and it feels like we’ve been there to witness half the journey from all the set photos that have been making the rounds.
Naturally, before director Todd Phillips and his crew had finished off their final scenes, the press was able to snap a few last-minute pics which come to us via the Daily Mail. These latest images offer us the already familiar sight of Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime, with the mischievous antihero seen standing on a long flight of steps in New York. We also get a look at Arthur Fleck sans makeup in the same location, while one photo shows Zazie Beetz walking down the steps with her possible onscreen daughter.
As it stands, we’ve still much to learn about Beetz’s part in this so-called cautionary tale, though it looks like Arthur may have an unhealthy fixation on the single mother, with previous set footage showing Phoenix stalking his co-star through the streets.
Beyond that, the material from the film’s production has painted a pretty clear picture of the Joker’s public persona as a rebel and a rabble-rouser, with various set pics depicting a sequence in which Arthur and his similarly clown-faced peers cause trouble in the subway while holding up slogans like “Clown4Mayor” and “Kill the Rich.” It’s also evident that the law doesn’t care too much for the film’s lead. A couple of weeks ago, for instance, a video emerged of Phoenix running through the streets in a bid to escape a pair of Gotham City police detectives.
We’ll see how all this set material fits together into an actual movie when Joker hits theaters on October 4th, 2019.
