Deadline is reporting that Jessica Chastain and Joel Edgerton have officially signed on and William Hurt is in discussions to star in two films that link as a double feature. The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers will be based off original screenplays and will be directed by Ned Benson.
The double feature will explore a “love story between a New York City couple during a difficult time in their marriage, from the different perspective of the husband, (Edgerton), a restaurant owner, and of the wife (Chastain), who goes back to college.”
Kirk D’Amico, the CEO of Myriad Pictures, stated: “Ned has created rich and engaging characters. They are complex, and it is unique to have two different scripts to tell the story. It doesn’t matter which script you read first, you absolutely want to read the other perspective.”
He then went on to say:
“We have to make both films work on their own, both for the buyers but also for the audiences. Together these films will describe a fully, more complete look at these characters and their lives. To me, this sounds interesting, bold and full of talent. I’m very interested to see the end result. Unfortunately, there is no word on when the films will start production but I think it’s a safe bet that it will be sometime after both Chastain and Edgerton finish work on the Untitled Kathyrn Bigelow/Bin Laden film, which goes into production later this month.
We’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
