The 2011 “It” girl, Jessica Chastain, has landed the female lead in Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski‘s Horizons. The film will have Chastain playing Tom Cruise‘s love interest in the sci-fi epic. This has been one of the most sought after roles of 2011, with Chastain beating out, Noomi Rapace, Olivia Wilde, Brit Marling, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and more.
The film is being penned by the Oscar winning writer of The Departed, William Monahan, and director Joseph Kosinski. The film’s synopsis reads:
“A court martial sends a veteran soldier (Cruise) to a distant planet, where he is to destroy the remains of an alien race. The arrival of an unexpected traveler (Chastain) causes him to question what he knows about the planet, his mission, and himself. “
This is great news for Chastain, who is staking her place in Hollywood and the world as a force to be reckoned with. I’m a huge fan of hers and I am sure that more A-List stars will be lining up to take on supporting roles here now that she has joined.
Horizons, which has a rumoured budget of $200 million, is definitely a project to watch out for, especially with it being called the film that will feature Tom Cruise‘s “come back” role.
Horizons stars Tom Cruise and Jessica Chastain and is set for release on July 19th, 2013.
