Jeremy Renner may have yet another high-profile film to add to his résumé as Deadline reports that the actor may star in the upcoming DreamWorks WikiLeaks film. The studio is also reportedly talking to the Twilight Saga‘s Bill Condon to potentially direct.
Based on the books WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War On Secrecy, by David Leigh and Luke Harding, and Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange At The World’s Most Dangerous Website, by Daniel Domscheit-Berg, Renner would play Julian Assange, the man who launched the controversial website in 2006.
Assange is a very complex character as opinion on him is split: Does he serve as an extra check on the power of governments or has he unnecessarily put lives at danger only to further his own notoriety? That high level of conflict that would certainly make for a challenging character for Renner to play and also for a very intriguing film.
As you probably know, this project is just one of many pending WikiLeaks films, including one written by The Hurt Locker scribe Mark Boal and a documentary by Alex Gibney.
What do you think of all these proposed WikiLeaks films? Would Jeremy Renner be a good choice to play Assange? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
