Update: We’ve removed the images at the request of the studio.
Original Story: Together they’ve fought off a robotic uprising as part of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, but Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen’s next gig is about as far removed from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as one can imagine.
That’s because in 2017, the Age of Ultron co-stars will be headlining Wind River, an upcoming murder drama written and directed by the so-hot-right-now Taylor Sheridan. Having amassed screenwriting credits on both Sicario and this year’s Hell or High Water, Sheridan is poised to make his directorial debut with Wind River, and today we have our first look at Renner and Olsen tracking a deadly killer deep within a Native American reservation. The former is attached to the part of Cory, a seasoned hunter who’s shouldering the death of his teenage daughter. In the midst of a hunting session, he crosses paths with a rookie FBI agent (Olsen), who enlists his help to get to the bottom of a chilling murder investigation.
Also starring Teen Wolf‘s Kelsey Asbille and Jon Bernthal, Wind River is already being held up as the third part of Taylor Sheridan’s trilogy on the American frontier and here, the writer-director sheds light on the thematic elements it shares with Sicario and Hell or High Water.
There are ties about purpose and forging morality. Facing your morality and deciding what it is. Assimilation — people living in places they probably shouldn’t, where historically they didn’t or moved out at a certain time. The Shoshone and the Arapaho and the Cheyenne and any number of different Indian nations lived in that Wind River area and they left it when eight feet of snow fell and moved somewhere else. But they don’t have that option today, so that’s something that’s explored. How does one endure in a place they shouldn’t be condemned to live in?
Wind River will make its worldwide premiere at Sundance Film Festival in January, before beginning its theatrical run soon thereafter.
