It’s no secret that Fox’s X-Men franchise is in trouble. With the latest instalment, Apocalypse, failing to sit well with fans and disappointing at the box office, the studio is now considering hitting the reboot switch. If they do go that route, they’re still hoping to keep a few of the key players on board – namely, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence. Whether or not the franchise’s stars even want to return is still up for debate, but someone who’s made it quite clear in the past that she’s ready to move on is Lawrence.
The actress’ contract concluded after Apocalypse and given how big of a star she is now, it’s easy to see why she’s not too keen on coming back for more. That doesn’t mean Lawrence is completely disinterested in the comic book movie genre though, as it seems she has her eye on another franchise. When asked during an interview for her new film Passengers if she’d like to join her co-star Chris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy, Lawrence said the following:
“Oh, my God, I would love to! I actually don’t even know — I would choose that over doing another X-Men movie. I won’t be Mystique in the X-Men movies, but I would love to be Mystique in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ I wonder if I can do that?”
Obviously, that isn’t possible (due to Fox holding the rights to Mystique and Marvel owning them for the Guardians), but what is possible is Lawrence joining the MCU in another role. And if that’s something that the actress truly wants to do, you can bet that the studio will try their hardest to make it happen.
It’d be best not to get too excited over this just yet though. More than likely, Lawrence is just having some fun in her interview and isn’t actually serious. Still, stranger things have happened and if one day the actress shows up in Guardians of the Galaxy or some other MCU film, we’d definitely welcome it.
