Jason Momoa has been dodging questions regarding his role in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice for months, but now that it’s been made official, he can finally open up about Aquaman and how he’s going to tackle the character. As we now know, the actor will make his big screen debut as the Atlantean hero in Batman V Superman, get his own solo film in 2018, and is likely to show up in both of Zack Snyder’s Justice League movies.

That’s a lot of pressure – and a lot of excitement – for an actor to hold in, especially when confronted by a rabid fanbase at every turn. Momoa seems much more relaxed now that the cat(fish) is out of the bag, and spoke about it with fans at Walker Stalker Con this weekend.

When asked about the big news, Momoa said:

“It’s been a BITCH! Just dodging, you know, because I was asked to play it and the fact is you just have to keep it quiet, out of respect for Warner Bros. and their whole position. So now I don’t have to be quiet anymore. It was REALLY hard for me.”

He then expressed his excitement for landing the part, and how he’ll bring his own familial background and heritage to the role:

“The greatest thing for me, is that Polynesians have all these water gods, so it’s really cool that I’ll be playing a character… there’s not too many brown superheroes. So I’m looking forward to representing the Polynesians and Natives and I think it’s really cool to have this chance. My family are some of the greatest hunters, I’m going to train with my family. I’m very excited to be a part of it, Zack Snyder is a genius.”

Hopefully now that Momoa has been officially announced, we will start hearing more about what he’ll bring to the role and how Snyder plans to bring the iconic character to life. In any case, we’ll know for sure when Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25th, 2016.
