According to Deadline, the search for a John Connor is now over as Terminator: Genesis has cast Jason Clarke in the lead role. Said to be a reboot, the film will be scripted by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier, with Alan Taylor behind the camera. Other than that, details on this one are pretty scarce. We do know, however, that casting for the role of Sarah Connor is currently underway and the frontrunners are Emilia Clarke and Brie Larson.
Though not a household name just yet, Clarke is well on his to the A-list. Starting with 2012’s Lawless, the actor has been on the rise ever since, snagging big roles in Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gasby and White House Down. He’ll also be seen in upcoming high-profile projects like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups.
While I personally think some of the other actors who were in the running for the part of John Connor would have been better (particularly Tom Hardy), Clarke is still a strong talent and it’s nice to see that he’s finally getting some recognition for all the hard work he’s been doing over the past couple of years. I’m not entirely sure if he’s leading man material just yet, but obviously the studio feels confident in his abilities, so we should too.
Terminator: Genesis opens on July 1st, 2015. Tell us, who do you want to see star alongside Clarke as Sarah Connor? Let us know in the comments section below.
