Deadline is reporting that the Farrelly brothers have added another cast member to their upcoming film, The Three Stooges. Jane Lynch, most well known these days for her role on the hit television show Glee, has joined the cast and will play a nun, a role originally intended for Cher. Lynch’s character will play an important part in the lives of Larry, Moe and Curly. Filming is set to begin next month and Lynch will join a cast that includes Sean Hayes, Will Sasso, Chris Diamantopoulos and Sofia Vergara.
Apparently the film will tell one story but it will be split up into three shorts. It will also be set in the modern era and carry a PG rating. Director Bobby Farrelly told us a few months back that:
“The Stooges back in the day did shorts that would be shown before a feature film. They’d do that 20 minute bit before people came into see a movie, so we’re going to do it that style. We’re going to do 3 shorts, 25 minutes each. But each one will lead you into the next. Back to back to back they’ll tell a whole story. It’ll be true to the Stooges but it’s not a biopic. We’ve written all new stuff for them, in their vein of comedy.”
I’ve never really been a fan of the original Three Stooges but I do like the Farrelly brothers and their take on the classic trio sounds pretty promising. The brothers know their comedy and if anyone should be providing a fresh take on the Stooges it should be the Farrellys. Agree?
