The Flash movie has more riding on it than most DC movies due to the way it has to wrap up the old-school DCEU and lay the foundation for the incoming rebooted DCU. That’s all thanks to its multiversal scope, which allows us to meet Sasha Calle’s Supergirl and bring back not one, but two Batmen, Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton. Not to mention Michael Shannon’s General Zod. And yet there are still some limitations to what the film can do. Unless, that is, James Gunn is secretly a speedster himself.
One Redditor is dreaming big as they pitched an idea on the r/DC_Cinematic sub that may stretch credibility but it would also blow our minds if it actually happened. As the fan asked: what if The Flash features a post-credits scene including our new Superman and Batman, the versions of those heroes who’ll star in Gunn’s Superman: Legacy and The Brave and the Bold?
It’s worth pointing out that the movie’s premiere screening at CinemaCon didn’t include a tag sequence, so DC is definitely keeping some treats back for its theatrical release. Could that really be because Gunn is waiting until he casts his Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne and then he’ll quickly shoot something just weeks before it opens in cinemas?
It is a fact that, with Legacy officially in pre-production, casting for Kal-El is underway, with Gunn admitting he has a short-list of “incredible” actors to choose from. So there is the vaguest possibility that Henry Cavill’s replacement as Krypton’s last son could drop by for an extremely last-minute Flash cameo. On the other hand, The Brave and the Bold doesn’t even have a director, so finding out who’ll be playing Bruce in that film is extremely unlikely to happen for a long while yet.
The replies to this post vary from those hyped up by this exciting notion to those more grounded sorts who doubt it can be done in time. Even if a Superman and a (third) Batman cameo can’t happen, though, there’s no doubt a bunch of surprises are waiting for us when The Flash races onto the big screen this June 16.
