James Gunn Teases Hidden Guardians Of The Galaxy Easter Egg; Josh Brolin Didn’t Think Twice About Playing Thanos

It's almost easy to forget the window leading up to the release of Guardians of the Galaxy, when almost every moviegoer and Marvelite harbored a feeling of apprehension going into James Gunn's sci-fi blockbuster. Low and behold, the action romp blew every expectation and lingering sense of doubt out of the water, and to this day many hold up the director's love letter as the best Marvel film to date.

It’s almost easy to forget the window leading up to the release of Guardians of the Galaxy, when almost every moviegoer and Marvelite harbored a feeling of apprehension going into James Gunn’s sci-fi blockbuster. Low and behold, the action romp blew every expectation and lingering sense of doubt out of the water, and to this day many hold up the director’s love letter as the best Marvel film to date.

However, according to Gunn, there’s still one fairly major secret buried within Star Lord’s journey that is yet to be found. Since its release in the summer of 2014, eagle-eyed fans have sifted through almost every frame of Guardians – including its bonkers post-credits sequence – to find easter eggs relating to the Infinity Gems, Laika and even Peter Quill’s origins. But the filmmaker took to his personal Facebook page to note that “they have not all been found. No one has found the big one, really. Maybe once someone came close.” Guess it’s time for a repeat viewing.

Gunn is on the verge of jump-starting production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in Atlanta, with the follow-up on course to hit theaters in 2017. Much like every sequel under the sun, the stakes will be ramped up for the galactic follow-up, though with Josh Brolin’s Thanos finally getting out of that floating throne, Quill and his ragtag crew could have their hands full before long.

As the overriding big bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Brolin’s menace has been a permanent fixture in the studio’s cinematic proceedings since the post-credits scene that arrived alongside The Avengers. Initially, committing to a multi-film contract didn’t seem like the kind of project in the actor’s wheelhouse, though Brolin recently revealed to ComingSoon, he didn’t think twice.

“I was in England doing Everest when making that decision and I’m usually surprised by the things you say no to, especially in hindsight. And Thanos was almost immediate. I looked through a book that [Marvel] had sent me was thought ‘God, this is amazing!'”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will arrive in theaters on May 5, 2017.
