Be it a novel, a play, or a movie, the plotting process has to be one of the most underrated aspects of writing out there. Of course, doing the actual writing is the most important part – much to the dismay of scribes everywhere – but a hefty plotting session can go a long way in axing a writer’s block spell.
If there’s anyone who knows a thing or two about plotting, it’s James Gunn, the brains behind the high-flying Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and also the guy who happens to be in charge of mapping the incoming DC Universe.
Indeed, before Marvel fans were even privy to the first Guardians movie, Gunn had already figured out where some of those storylines ended in Vol. 3, and one of those belonged to Nebula.
When asked on Twitter if Nebula’s arc had always landed her on the side of the Guardians, Gunn confirmed that that was always the case from the start; in fact, he had that figured out long before Karen Gillan, who portrays the character, was even cast.
The takeaway here is that Gunn likes to have stuff figured out ahead of time, which should spell all the best news for eager DC fans waiting for him to change the superhero film game.
We can all rest assured that Gunn is going to be dissecting the beats and arcs of his universe with the utmost care, so much so that he’s even taking a pseudo-break from Twitter to focus on them, and we all know how much he loves debunking internet rumors.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters.
