Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 looks like it’s going to be an epic finale to the trilogy. After last night’s Super Bowl trailer, fans are more convinced than ever that many of the Guardians won’t make it out of the movie, especially after shots showing Peter Quill howling in despair and his limp body being carried by Nebula.
But it won’t be all death and gloom. The trailer is still fundamentally light-hearted and features a lot of jokes. It also features a new character that looks like a refugee from Fantastic Beasts — a furry four-eared critter held by Gamora who’s potentially a new pet for the team.
Now we know his name:
We expect the Disney merchandising machine instantly began producing Blurp plushies and toys the moment they got their eyes on him. Who can blame them, as after the events of this movie, we may need a Blurp doll to cuddle up with as we process the emotional turmoil this movie looks set to deliver.
Exactly what role Blurp will play in the movie remains to be seen, though we’re hoping he’s not just a background detail and actually plays some role in the story. Whether Blurp will go on to become an MCU mainstay and appear in future movies (The Marvels?) is also unknown, though the instantly positive reaction to his unveiling in this trailer certainly indicates that fans have already taken his furry cuteness into their hearts.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 5, 2023.
