DC fans are still coming down from the high of Jan. 31’s deluge of announcements for DCU Chapter One, with James Gunn delivering a full slate of thrilling upcoming movies and TV series that promise the future is — finally — looking bright for the DC universe. What’s more, with Gunn being the most extremely online movie executive around, the opportunity is there for fans to have way more input on the developing franchise than we’ve ever had with the MCU.
Case in point: Gunn looks to be pulling an Elon Musk by letting the results of a Twitter poll of all things influence his decision about a major element of the rebooted Superman. The DC Studios co-CEO took to social media today to get the fandom’s definitive answer on a burning question: should the Man of Steel wear his trunks on the outside or the inside?
Before the power could go entirely to folks’ heads, though, Gunn quickly followed up his initial poll with a clarification that “this is just for fun,” and, no, he’s “not going to decide whether Superman has trunks or no trunks based on an egregiously non-scientific Twitter poll.”
Whatever Gunn says, however, it seems logical to assume that, if the end result of this poll is overwhelming leaning towards one direction, he’ll be at least partially inclined to go that way. At the time of writing, the consensus is pretty split down the middle, with just over 60 percent voting in favor and just under 40% voting against. This sounds about par for the course for a debate which you might expect would be pretty frivolous but every Supes fan actually has an incredibly passionate opinion about.
Although, can we just say, what with the Creature Commandos animated series announcement, the DCU is shaping up to be strangely obsessed with underthings. Still, given that James Gunn is the man who gave us John Cena’s Peacemaker kicking ass in nothing but his tighty-whities, maybe we shouldn’t be all that surprised.
