Having admitted that he actively enjoys debunking rumors relating to his past, present, and future projects, James Gunn might end up regretting those words as the co-CEO of DC Studios. After all, there’s a whole lot of content on the way, with Superman: Legacy‘s July 2025 release date marking the tip of a spandex-clad iceberg more than capable of sinking the Titanic.
The filmmaker has already been making the rounds on social media to pour cold water on unfounded scuttlebutt, even if it did lead to the incredible sight of one such rumor perpetrator asking how on earth the screenwriter and producer of the Man of Steel’s next impending reboot would know if the casting process had started or not.
On the plus side, Gunn has confirmed which comic book run won’t be influencing his fresh take on the Kryptonian superhero, but he seems to be luxuriating in the fact that there’s a long way to go, and countless more speculative theories to be shot down along the way.
Interestingly, one report Gunn has remained steadfastly tight-lipped on so far is the chatter that he’s planning to direct Superman: Legacy himself. History has shown that if the Guardians of the Galaxy architect doesn’t come right out and say something isn’t true, then there’s a distinct chance it’s on the cards. Either way, we’ll be finding that out sooner rather than later, seeing as Kal-El’s next fresh coat of paint will need to start ramping up pre-production at some time in the near future.
