Zack Snyder recently got the DC fandom talking by confirming that, yes, he was planning to have Lois Lane and Bruce Wayne get together in the wake of Superman’s death in Justice League. Ironically enough, now his successor as the new creative architect of the DC universe, James Gunn, has pulled a similar trick in teasing a romance between two Guardians of the Galaxy characters that likewise would’ve horrified fans if it had ever come to pass.
While talking to Collider, Chris Pratt and Gunn were asked what they think might’ve happened if Gamora had survived through Avengers: Infinity War. The Star-Lord star suggested that the pair would’ve gone on to start a family, although he suspects Quill “would’ve blown it, though” and “screwed it up somehow.” Pratt then changed his mind, however, and declared that, in a twist of fate, Gamora might’ve ruined the relationship instead.
Gunn then took the opportunity to chime in with his own thoughts on what might’ve occurred next. “She would’ve hooked up with Adam Warlock, like she does in the comics,” Gunn pitched, something that Pratt thought would’ve been “so good” to see. We’re going to go out on a limb, however, and say that he’s probably the only one out there who thinks that.
While Adam is beloved in the source material, first reviews point to his live-action adaptation being one of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s biggest letdowns. Specifically, as a newborn genetically engineered being, he’s portrayed as an innocent child. Needless to say, this Adam embarking on a romance with Gamora would be all kinds of ick. While we’re sad the original Gamora died (and would’ve done in every version of the MCU timeline), we’re thankful Gunn and Pratt didn’t get to bring this idea to life.
